On the violation of the Fermi-liquid picture in two-dimensional systems in the presence of van Hove singularities

چکیده
We consider the two-dimensional t-t Hubbard model with the Fermi level being close to the van Hove singularities. The phase diagram of the model is discussed. In a broad energy region the self-energy at the singularity points has a nearly-linear energy dependence. The corresponding correction to the density of states is proportional to ln |ε|. Both realand imaginary part of the self-energy increase near the quantum phase transition into magnetically ordered or superconducting phase which implies violation of the Fermi-liquid behavior. The application of the results to cuprates is discussed. Typeset using REVTEX 1

The fermion sign problem is studied in the path integral formalism. The standard picture of Fermi liquids is first critically analyzed, pointing out some of its rather peculiar properties. The insightful work of Ceperley in constructing fermionic path integrals in terms of constrained world-lines is then reviewed. In this representation, the minus signs associated with Fermi-Dirac statistics a...
متن کاملThe Kondo-lattice state and non-Fermi-liquid behavior in the presence of Van Hove singularities.
A scaling consideration of the Kondo lattices is performed with account of logarithmic Van Hove singularities (VHS) in the electron density of states. The scaling trajectories are presented for different magnetic phases. It is demonstrated that VHS lead to a considerable increase of the non-Fermi-liquid behavior region owing to softening of magnon branches during the renormalization process. Al...
